Why Choose South Ridge Dental for Metal-Free Dental Restorations?

What Are Metal-Free Dental Restorations?

While traditional amalgam restorations were once the only option for repairing and restoring damaged or decayed teeth, this posed a significant problem for dental patients who had severe allergies or sensitivities to metal. They also left dark rings around the base of a person’s natural tooth and were found to be toxic to the body if left in for too long.

In an effort to move away from these types of restorations, our team, along with thousands of other cosmetic dentists throughout the United States, offer metal-free restorations. Whether you require a filling, dental crown, bridge, or inlay or onlay, we can give your weakened tooth the protection it needs without the unnecessary metal.

The timeframe for your treatment is dependent upon the type of restoration you will have placed.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

If you are in need of a tooth-colored filling, you can expect the procedure to take no more than one visit to our dental office. After we clean the damaged or decayed area of your tooth, we will wash it out to remove any debris that is left behind. Using a composite resin, we will match it to your natural tooth color using a shade guide. Once the desired color is achieved, we will apply it directly onto the tooth and begin to shape and sculpt it in place. By using a special low-UV light, this will create a tight seal that keeps infection out as well as provides a fully blended look for an aesthetically pleasing smile.

Tooth-Colored Crowns

If a filling isn’t enough to fix a severely decayed or broken tooth in Lincoln, our dentists will likely suggest a dental crown, which can take two visits to complete. During your first appointment, we will take impressions of your smile before sending them to dental lab technicians who will create your custom prosthetic. Our dentists will clean and remove the damaged portion of your tooth before sealing it with composite resin. Before you leave, we will fit you with a temporary crown, which you will wear until your permanent one is ready. When arriving for your second visit, we will remove the temporary and cement your finalized dental crown into place over your natural tooth.
