While handwashing may seem like a simple task, it can\u2019t adequately\nwash away germs if you\u2019re using the wrong techniques. Each time you wash your\nhands, remember to follow these five important steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Wet your hands with running water and apply soap.<\/li><li>Rub the soap over every surface of your hands,\nincluding between your fingers and the back of your hands.<\/li><li>Take several seconds to wash your thumbs,\nfingertips, and underneath any hand jewelry like rings or watches. <\/li><li>After washing for at least 60 seconds, gently\nrinse off all the soap with running water. <\/li><li>Dry your hands completely, preferably with a\ndisposable (paper) towel. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important Times for Hand Hygiene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We unconsciously touch our faces many times throughout the\nday, which transfers any germs on our hands. That\u2019s why it\u2019s important to wash\nyour hands at times like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Before leaving the bathroom.<\/li><li>Before preparing or eating food.<\/li><li>After handling animals, pet food, or garbage.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, there are even more times you should wash your\nhands during the COVID-19 pandemic, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>After returning from a public place like the grocery\nstore or pharmacy. <\/li><li>Before and after touching high-traffic fixtures\nlike doorknobs, handrails, and shopping carts.<\/li><li>Before putting on a face mask and directly after\ntaking one off. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Best Time to Use Hand Sanitizer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Did you know that hand sanitizer is no more effective at\ncleaning your hands than handwashing? In fact, health experts say that washing\nyour hands is the preferred method for keeping germs at bay. However, you may\nnot have the opportunity to wash your hands in a public area with frequently\ntouched surfaces. In these cases, you should opt to disinfect your hands with a\nsanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol. Read the instructions carefully before\napplying. Typically, you\u2019ll squeeze out a small amount into one palm, then rub\nit all over both hands for at least 20 seconds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now more than ever, its important that we all take the time\nto ensure our hands are germ-free.
